LEGO® Sd. Kfz. 222 DAK | WW2 German Light Armoured Car
The Sd. Kfz. 222 served in the Afrika Korps in reconnaissance units. It was armed with 20-mm cannon and a co-axial MG 34 machine gun. The open desert was difficult for the Sd. Kfz. 222 to handle becuase of it's relatively short range (only 100 miles) cross the rough terrain. Many of these vehicles were fitted with anti-grenade wire mesh over the open turret to protect the three man crew. Erwin Rommel could achieve victories early on in the African campaign thanks to these light vehicles. The Desert War developed and gradually many light tanks and vehicles were faded out in favour of new PzKpftw VI Tiger I tanks.
