LEGO® Tiger I | German Heavy Tank | 1:45 Scale
The Tiger I was designed to face-up-to Soviet heavy tanks such as KV-1, so it needed sufficient armour and firepower. There is 100mm armour plating angled at 9 degrees back on the driver's plate, 60mm glacis at 80 degrees, and the rear plate had 80mm thick at 9 degrees. The Tiger I had very impressive protection for 1941. It had a 8.8cm Kw.K. 36 L/56 main gun located in the turret with a coaxial MG-34 7.92mm machine gun. And a ball-mounted MG-34 on the right hand side of the hull. From June 1942 onward, six 95mm smoke grenade launchers were mounted on the turret. Each Tiger costed RM 250,800 (Reichsmarks) compared to just RM 103,462 for a Panzer IV. Five men crewed the Tiger I, including a commander, gunner, loader, driver and radio operator. The main issue with the Tiger I was the reliability of the 21-litre V-12 Maybach petrol engine. This heavily restricted the mobility and speed of the tank.
