LEGO® 8.8cm Pak 43 WW2 German Anti-Tank Gun
Developed by Krupp to compete with the 8.8cm Flak 18/36/37/41 which was produced by Rheinmetall. It was one of the most powerful anti-tank gun of World War II. Between 1943 and 1945 around 2,100 were built and saw use on many fronts. Including the Eastern Front where German troops called it the 'Scheunentor' or the 'barn door' because it was difficult to use in muddy conditions due to it's weight. It has a semi-automatic vertical breech which helped to reduce the recoil produced from firing the gun. Versions of this gun were fitted onto German tanks and armoured vehicles like the Tiger II and Elefant. These variants were renamed as the 8.8cm Kwk 43. Overall it was an effective anti-tank gun and saw extentive use in the German army during World War II.
